ABOUT KOCHI
KOCHI: ORIGIN & HISTORY
Kochi traces its origin to the port of “Muziris” ( Muchiri in Malayalam, for cleft lip.) It denotes the three branches of river Periyar that flow through and open into the Arabian Sea through this port town. It is mentioned in Ramayna, Mahabharata, Akananur and Chilaapathikaram. The Poets Pathanjali and Karthiyayan as well as the travelogues of Pliny and Ptolemy mention it. It is also mentioned in the stone writings of Emperor Asoka. |
